Hannah Wheeler

Hannah Wheelers' skill and creativity is easy to see when looking through her portfolio of work. Hannah is currently based in Loughborough at University studying BA Design. We sat down with her to ask a few questions.

1.How would you describe what you do?

I am originally a portrait artist who also specialises in 3-dimensional design and sculpture.

2.How did you find your style?

I think finding my style and the sort of stuff I wanted to make was and still is difficult, it’s an ongoing battle for a lot of artists. I don’t believe I have a regular style that I stick to, I like to try new techniques and test my boundaries as an artist, I think my style is more a reflection on the sort of person I am than the correlation between each piece.

3.What is one pivotal piece of advice you received that helped you through your work?

‘Trust the process’ words I live by honestly, so cliche but you really do have to with art. Quite often I’ll start a piece and only take a liking to it when it’s almost finished, the process isn’t always relaxing but usually the outcome is worth it.

4.What is one thing you would like to say about the meaning behind what you do?

It used to really annoy me at school when I’d produce a piece and it seemed the only thing that mattered was its ‘narrative’ and what it meant in words. For me the whole point of art is to express myself visually and showing emotion instead of telling.
